About my training...

I am currently offering groundwork training, despooking and riding/horsemanship lessons. I offer private lessons as well as group lessons. I am not a drill instructor. Lessons are aimed at being fun and relaxed and geared to what each person needs to learn - no "agenda".

I do not charge by the hour for any of my lessons. A typical groundwork or despooking session is 2 to 2 1/2 hours and a typical riding session is 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Sometimes it just takes one person longer than another and some things are just more complicated and take extra time to really "get". I will also tailor the lessons to meet your needs - nothing is written in stone. If my rates are too steep the way they are we can usually work something out.

As far as style goes - you'll see a little of everything. I ride western but do not specialize in any particular discipline.

Groundwork Training

I am a big believer in natural horsemanship methods. Although I may put the horses through a lot of hard work, it is all non-abusive. I work on the horse's attitude to make a better partner for the owner. You will definitely recognize some of the methods used by Pat and Linda Parelli, Clinton Anderson, Buck Brannaman and Chris Cox in what I do.

Riding/horsemanship lessons

Lessons are available for different levels of experience… from the ultimate beginner and up.

I like to say that I specialize in patience and building the rider's confidence.

Lessons are designed to educate students on equine knowledge and respect through proper ground and mounted instruction.

Learning to ride correctly, responsibly and with an understanding of when, where, how, and why to apply a few simple universal techniques can make you a competent and successful rider - regardless of how big or small your riding goals and ambitions are.

I don’t only teach “what to do”, but why to do it and why the horse understands and responds.

Students are not only given riding instruction, but will learn many important things related to horses and riding, such as: common horse sense, grooming, basic groundwork, haltering, saddling, bridling,  mounting, dismounting, and more.

Students also learn to identify and correctly place, fit and adjust the tack they will be using.

Students must be at least 13 years of age.

I offer Private Lessons seven days a week and have several
Group Sessions already scheduled for the near future.

Horses currently in training

Waylon is (re)learning how to get into a trailer without giving his owner too much (any!) grief.  I'm only helping with the big guy... much of the credit goes to his owner.

Badger will be learning a lot before I'll be riding him!

This is Java, the mare I bought last November. I've been doing lots of groundwork with her and have been getting her out on the trails as often as possible. She's proving to be a fabulous lesson horse.

Cheyenne has had soooo much groundwork since we started working together.  She should soon be ready for anything she might encounter out in the trail world!

Paco has some disrespect as well as barn sour issues that need to be worked on.

Trainees of the past

Dulce had some kicking, crowding and (lack of) willingness to hold up her feet issues that needed work.  She also needed groundwork training to prepare her to be started under saddle.

Rocco needed a tune up so he would be a safe horse for his next owner.  He truly became a different horse after the groundwork we did.

Apache needed some help with his respect issues.  Beverly quickly realized just how important groundwork really is and how much of a difference it makes in a short amount of time.

When I met this 2 yr old filly she would swing around and throw out both rear legs to kick at someone.  She would also charge her stall panel to lunge her head out to bite if someone walked by.  Groundwork, groundwork, groundwork and exposure to anything and everything to help build her confidence created life changing results.

Mad About You was a broodmare that was given to me in May 2006.  She was too small for me so I did what I could with her on the ground and had some others help with her under saddle.  She found a new home with a 12 yr old girl and everyone lives happily ever after!
